Holi Celebration: Hair & Skin Care Regimen

Holi is the festival of colors which is celebrated in different ways across the country. The article is about the Holi celebration: hair & skincare regimen. Every year we enjoy it with our friends and family and even people across the world celebrate it. In Hindu Mythology the festival is a symbol of eternal love between Radha and Lord Krishna. The way to play Holi this spring season is a little smarter. However, we want everything perfect like colors, good food, great ambiance, family gatherings, and Insta-ready pictures. But sometimes we skip the main part while playing with colors, water balloons, or flowers. “Self Care”. Our skin types are different and need special care before and after the celebration. Here, I am sharing some tips to protect yourself from hair and skin damage during Holi.

Celebration and Hydration:

During this Holi celebration don’t forget to skip your hydration routines. Drinking water is vital for healthy and glowing skin. Just drink it regularly throughout the day. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, but each person’s needs can vary. Pay attention to your body’s signals for thirst and drinking water before, during, and after physical activity or exposure to heat. Additionally, eating water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables can also contribute to your hydration.

Apply Body Oil or Cream:

Applying a layer of moisturizer or petroleum jelly that suits your skin type will create a barrier. Gently massage your body oil or moisturizer at least 30 minutes before stepping out. Don’t forget to use your sunscreen. These are the few simple steps that will protect our skin while playing Holi.

Sunscreen Protection:

Absolutely! Sunscreen protection is crucial, especially during outdoor festivities like Holi. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 50 to all exposed areas of your skin, including your face, neck, ears, arms, and legs, about 15-30 minutes before stepping out. Try reapplying water-resistant sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’re sweating or getting wet from water balloons or guns during the celebration. By incorporating sunscreen into your Holi routine, you can enjoy the festivities while keeping your skin safe from harmful UV rays.

Oil Massage For Hair:

Holi Celebration: Hair & Skin Care Regimen is a must! Properly managing your hair during Holi is quite challenging. Apply olive oil, virgin coconut oil or choose your favorite one. Gently massage your scalp before stepping out to play Holi. This creates a protective barrier that helps prevent the colors from sticking to your hair and scalp. Tie your hair or try a cap, scarf, or bandana to shield it from colors and water. If you are uncomfortable with hair oil try some hair serum to prevent tangling and breakage while playing.

Safe Holi With Natural Colors:

Avoid synthetic and cheap colors during Holi; it contain lead and mercury that can damage your skin and hair. Skin irritation, discomfort, and allergies are common problems you can face if you are unaware of them. Playing Holi with natural colors is not only fun but also eco-friendly. Opt for natural and organic ingredients like flower extracts, turmeric, sandalwood powder, etc. However, you can search for organic products online. These colors are safe for your skin and hair. Enjoy the celebration while being mindful of nature!

Holi Celebration: Hair & Skin Care Regimen Post-Holi Warm-up

It is very essential to warm up and take care of your body after playing Holi. Here are some tips to warm up after Holi.

Use Lukewarm Water Instead of Hot Water:

After your celebration, rinse off the colors gently with lukewarm water. Use a gentle cleanser to remove the colors without stripping off your skin’s natural oil. Meanwhile, take a shower to relax your muscles and soothe your skin.

Use Natural Ingredients To Clean It Up:

If you want to try an organic method of cleansing use gram flour (besan). It is an excellent natural way to exfoliate dead skin and remove impurities. Mix gram flour with milk, water, or rose water (Gulab Jal)  to make a paste and gently massage it in a circular motion. Avoid harsh scrubbing, relax for a few minutes, and wash it off for clear and glowing skin.

Pamper You Skin With Moisturizer:

Now it’s time to pamper your skin with proper hydration. After showering try to apply a nourishing moisturizer that keeps your skin rejuvenated. Look for moisturizers with soothing ingredients like aloe vera, Vitamin E, glycerin, or coconut oil to calm any irritation caused by the colors.

Hair Spa At Home or Professional:

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo to remove the remaining color and dirt. Use a deep conditioning treatment to nourish and moisturize your hair. This will help restore its health and shine. You can choose hair spa kits or a good hair mask also. Your hair might need extra care and nourishment to recover from the effects of colors and chemicals. You have the option to either do a hair spa at home or visit a professional salon for a more intensive treatment. Avoid heat styling like straighteners, and curling irons for a few days after Holi to prevent further damage. Well, a home hair spa or professional spa depends on your preferences, budget, and the condition of your hair.

Manicure & Pedicure:

Getting a manicure and pedicure after Holi can be a refreshing way to freshen up your hands and feet. Try focusing on hydration and nourishment for your hands and feet rather than harsh exfoliation. A manicure and pedicure can help remove any stubborn color stains from your nails and cuticles, leaving them clean and polished. Treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation and pampering after the excitement of Holi by indulging in a manicure and pedicure.

Self- Love Post Holi:
